    Window Defender 0.8.0

Alles neu gezeichnet, alles neu vertont

bedienen dieselben Richtungen. Auch Controller ohne Analogsticks (Arcade-Sticks,
einfache Digital-Pads) steuern jetzt. Die Leertaste geht überall: Menüs und
Banner nehmen Enter, Leertaste und den Bestätigungsknopf am Controller. Wo „Taste

Gelegenheitsspieler keine Chance hatten.

    • Lange Sitzungen bleiben stabil. Nach etwa 71 Minuten Spielzeit lief die
      Angriffsauswahl vorher aus dem Ruder.

    English

    Window Defender 0.8.0

Almost everything has been touched since 0.5.0: the game speaks, all graphics and
music are new, all ten bosses were rebuilt from the ground up — and your desktop
is finally the playfield for real.

    The game speaks

An announcer comments on 76 events in English and German: the intro
narration, "Get ready", the level number, "Level cleared", every power-up you
collect, extra life, "Danger" and "Energy critical", "Hurry up", the announcement
of each of the ten bosses, phase warning, "Special ready", "Game over", the
continue countdown, a new high score and the VS calls.

Only ever one voice speaks: important lines (boss, danger) cut off less
important ones immediately, and a salvo of events becomes one audible
announcement instead of stammering. The voice comes out of the game itself — no
third-party library, no voice files on disk. Its timbre follows the graphics
mode: coarsely quantized in 8-bit, clear in 16-bit. While speech plays the music
ducks softly and returns slowly afterwards; sound effects stay at full volume.

The intro is re-narrated in both languages — with a rising arc, deliberate pauses
and word-accurate subtitles that highlight exactly on the spoken word.

    Everything redrawn, everything rescored

Every graphic in the game is new: the player, all enemies, all ten bosses,
projectiles, bonus objects, collectibles and icons. 8-bit and 16-bit are drawn
    separately
    — the 16-bit set is not an upscale but its own richer artwork with
more colors, finer shading and extra animation frames. The toggle shows a clear
    difference.

All music is re-arranged as driving techno with a continuous bassline and a
four-on-the-floor kick. In SID mode it keeps the C64 character; in Amiga mode the
same music plays across four channels with its own drum samples. Every sound
effect was redesigned too, and each boss has its own sound.

    The ten bosses

Every boss has a signature mechanic no other one uses — from the Worm King's
constriction and the Steel Brood's armor shedding to the Maw's undertow and
Omega's war-form shifts with a desperation finale. Each has at least three
qualitatively different phases (tactics and priorities change, new attacks
appear) and at least three hand-designed, telegraphed attacks.

Boss parts can be shot off. Articulated parts sit visibly on the body and
detach with their own animation — and shooting them off takes attacks away from
the boss: silence Omega's shoulder pods and the pod salvo stops, starving the
    shard phalanx.

    Your desktop is the level

Every open window and every desktop icon now carries a platform. Before, the
game picked only a handful — most window edges stayed empty no matter how you had
arranged things. Set your windows up the way you want to jump before you start:
that is exactly what the level becomes.

No more invented icons. The icons in the game are your real desktop icons, on
every system. A tidy desktop is respected too: if you deliberately placed two
windows, the game used to add nine invented ones. Maximized windows now count as
well — they were silently discarded before.

If the screen capture fails, the game explains why and plays on a generated
substitute background instead of showing a black screen. On macOS it runs as its
own app, so the screen-recording permission applies to the game and not to
    whatever terminal launched it.

    Controls

Every action is freely bindable — both players, any key, any gamepad button
and any axis direction. Gamepads are re-recognized by identity, so a known pad
gets its saved bindings back. You pick the device per player explicitly; a pad
you plug in no longer takes over on its own.

The d-pad works out of the box, no setup needed — stick and d-pad drive the
same directions. Controllers with no analog sticks at all (arcade sticks, plain
digital pads) now steer as well. Space works everywhere: menus and banners
accept Enter, Space and the controller's confirm button. Where it says "press any
key to continue", any key genuinely does, and the pause menu is d-pad navigable.

The special moves have a catalog that fills the F1 help page — what it shows
is exactly what the game recognizes.

    Fairness and difficulty

EASY was practically unbeatable. The bosses fired so many projectiles that
casual players had no chance. A hard fire budget now caps this per difficulty —
on EASY at most twelve visible boss projectiles and one active attack. The fire
    stays readable and dodgeable.

Attacks are telegraphed longer (at least 0.75 s on NORMAL), simultaneous boss
attacks are capped, and a walkable lane always stays free on the platforms —
objects take up at most half a platform's width.

    Also fixed

Heads up: The title screen named the wrong key. It advertised F2 for
switching between 8-bit and 16-bit — but the key is M. F2 is the quicksave
during play, so anyone following that hint overwrote their save slot 1. The
    hint is corrected.

    • The title screen demo never ran. The menu promised a running demo while the
title screen sat on an empty world. A bot now plays visibly behind the menu.
    • The last four bosses had no weak points. The Maw, Colossus, The Armada and
Omega fell back to plain full-body hits — they now have their real weak spots.
    • Hits register where you hit. Hitboxes follow the drawn sprite and its
current animation frame. Flying enemies used to be hit below their body instead
      of in it.
    • Your character now visibly reacts to hits — hit frames and the hit flash
      were not running at all.
    • The continue offer counts down. Ten seconds, the last five counted out
loud, remaining time on screen — and when it runs out it counts as declining
      instead of waiting forever.
    • In two-player games the right player enters their name. It always said
"Player 1", even when player 2 had earned the score.
    • Boss attacks no longer wedge at the arena edge, and each boss's signature
attack is available from the first cycle instead of starting locked.
    • The burrowed Worm King is really underground — it used to deal contact
damage and invisibly block your shots.
    • Adjacent levels no longer repeat songs, and music selection no longer
      shifts the course of play.
    • Long sessions stay stable. After roughly 71 minutes of play the attack
      selection used to drift.
